Telecaster Vision
Hello - welcome to the inspiration page, or vision for this Telecaster Project Build.
Why a Telecaster?
Having owned and played a variety of electric guitars over the past 7-8 years, the lure of building my own guitar from scratch had always hung over me. Spending a lot of time with a Stratocaster had endeared to me the Fender sound, body style and feel. Some time with an Epiphone SG did not win me over. Although I do have to note that I am in love with the Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid that I recently purchased. It feels so familiar and comfortable and plays smooth and effortlessly, with two active EMG pups, sounding like anything I want it to sound like.
Hoping to end up with a final product that I could enjoy and feel at home playing, I wanted to stay in the Fender family for this first build (there, I said it - 'first'). The Telecaster was not a guitar body style with which I was ever really thrilled, and what can you do with two twangy single coil pups? Still, I was intrigued and felt that perhaps I was missing something in the twang and sharp smack of the Tele style electronics. The body was a fairly simple shape as well, and plans accessible online - although the body shape was not a part of the attraction. I would overcome this with Strat and SG inspired modifications! My guitar, my design, eh?
Thus over the space of 2 months or so, I embarked on this project to build a modified Telecaster style guitar with any other customization I chose as the project moved along. Research done and YouTube videos watched, it was time to put together a parts list and head to the lumber yard to pick out a plank of wood and get this axe started.
